Immersive Ed. Design/Development/Research
Greenbush Educational Service Center
After 5 years GreenbushIsland in Secoondlife is closing. We feel Opensim has matured enough as a viable option to shift all development and operations from our Secondlife Island to the GreenbushGrid. GreenbushGrid will also be the Immersive Education Consortium: Kansa Chapter Hub (Stay tuned for more IED:KANSAS news ) !
GreenbushGrid has been operational since 2007 exploring the uses of Opensim based virtual worlds for education. Greenbush is very proud to have been one of the very first organizations to see the potential in Opensim and begin to leverage it with our students. We are excited to continue to be an innovative leader with these technologies. Stay tuned to http://labs.greenbush.us for further updates ! ! !
* The GreenbushGrid Project : http://grid.greenbush.us
* GreenbushGrid will support the Imprudence viewer moving forward for in-world teacher activities
* GreenbushGrid will be implementing this spring the new AudioWhiteboard version currently in development !
With the formation of the Kansas Chapter of the Immersive Education
Consortium we are compiling a shared list of immersive educators in
Kansas. If you are an Immersive Educator in Kansas please feel free
to share your information here – http://goo.gl/09kvV …. If you know
a Kansas Immersive Educator please feel free to share the link with
them … If you are an Immersive Educator from
another region stay tuned for the announcement of other regional
chapters in the coming months.
Brain storming a several months ago with a group regarding an Augmented Reality Learning Platform for the Greenbush wetlands & other projects along these lines. Sure in a year or two Android devices will be much cheaper for something student focused like this

[MAP OF OF JCCC]
Over the past 4 years Edusim and the Open Cobalt projects have made some very significant evolutions. The Greenbush Middle School Leadership kids have used Edusim for their projects the past 4 years locally at Greenbush and Edusim itself has been downloaded over 14,000 times from other users !
In a few days the latest Edusim article entitled “Beyond Multimedia Literacy: Supporting Mastery in Virtual Environments” is going to press in the MIT Press International Journal of Learning and Media http://www.mitpressjournals.org/loi/ijlm
(by Dr. Mary Leigh Morbey). The text is strongly supportive of the Open Cobalt and Edusim and contains several Edusim screen shots in the article !
I Hope you’ll take a look at the new stuff stay and tuned for the first beta version of Edusim to be announced this spring !
